Breaking the Stigma of Retirement

It is reported that there are nearly 75 million Baby Boomers on the verge of retirement, with 10,000 to be added every day for the next 20 years. Most people look forward to not having to work anymore, but no one wants to embrace the old stigma of retirement. You may think of sitting in rocking chairs while knitting hats or living the rest of your days in a nursing home. We’re here to tell you that times have changed and that view of retirement is not prevalent anymore.

Currently, we’re living life longer than we ever have before and breaking the mold set by the generations before us. We’re still thriving, learning new things, and beating the odds. For example, check out this women’s basketball team with their youngest player at just 82 years old. Our generation has changed the game in retirement for seniors today, on and off the court.

Design Your Own Life

Some people see retirement as putting a pause on life. Some believe our days will be spent putting on a nightgown and walking around in our slippers from day to night. We’re here to let you know that this is not true. There are still plenty of opportunities at hand for you to choose from. It’s easy for you to continue holding a job, try new hobbies, and continue meeting your best friend at your favorite lunch spot.

Aging adults today are breaking the stereotypes and proving that there is no age limit to enjoying life. Cher for example, at 71 years old, is still living the life as an entertainer. Performing for thousands of people each month to this day. So, who says you have to hit that pause button? Keep dreaming big and take the opportunities that are set out before you.

What it Looks Like for You

Spend time planning for your retirement and discussing your different options with your loved ones. Rule out what choices wouldn’t benefit you and your family long-term and make a list of the pros and cons. It may take some time to figure out exactly where you want to spend your time during this transition of life, but that’s ok. When you take your time to make the right decision while planning, you will have more time to enjoy it with those you love. Once you have found the options that you’ve decided on, you will wake up each day with a fresh excitement. There’s still adventure ahead and you’ve been working so hard to get there.
