Activities at Woodland Ridge that Benefit (& Boost!) Senior Health

At Woodland Ridge, we offer a variety of activities that provide health benefits to our residents. These activities do not need to include strenuous work; many, less intense activities offer just as much health benefits to seniors! The approach at Woodland Ridge is simple; provide our residents with activities that improve their health. We include social, mental, and physical activities that promote a better, healthier lifestyle to those under our care.

Our ambition to enrich our residents’ lives is unyielding, and we continually strive to improve. We want to share some of the activities that we encourage our residents to participate in, as well as the health benefits they provide!

Social Interactivity

A socially active life is one of the many keys to improved health. While it may be tough to socialize or expand your social circle, especially as you age, it is unquestionably vital! Social isolation has become a common issue amongst seniors with nearly a quarter of seniors experiencing it.

Social activity stimulates the brain and can improve your overall mood. At Woodland Ridge, we offer our residents plenty of opportunities to socialize. Whether it be a set social event or simply enjoying a garden-side dinner with other residents (the fresh air will provide you with many benefits, too!).

Mindfulness and Mental Activity

Mentally stimulating activities are a great way to keep your body and mind healthy. While you may assume mental activities aren’t as important as physical, you’d be wrong. Mental health activities provide a wealth of health benefits for seniors! These activities can vary from reading a book to actively solving puzzles or even playing games. Finding something you want to participate in is the first step to crafting your routine.

Mentally stimulating activities can provide you with the following health benefits:

  • Reduced feelings of anxiety or stress
  • Improved memory functionality
  • Improved sense of confidence
  • Improved overall mood
  • Sharpened sense of focus and enhanced problem-solving skills

While the activity you participate in is up to you, they are valuable to maintaining your health and keeping your brain active and agile. Click here to download some activities Woodland Ridge put together that promote brain health!

Physical Activity

The truth behind physical activity as we age is that it does not need to be intense or overly strenuous to yield health benefits for seniors. A simple walk around a park, easy-going stretching, or just getting up and staying busy around your house should do the trick!

Taking the time to focus on these areas of your well-being will start to improve your overall quality of life! Plus, all of the activities mentioned have shown to help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

At Woodland Ridge, we understand the importance of each type of activity discussed in this blog. That is why we provide our residents with a wealth of activities they can participate in to improve their health, coupled with an unprecedented level of care. Our residents feel like they are right at home, and our care counselors provide a genuine level of care to those under their supervision.
